BRAZIL vs BELGIUM
KICK OFF: Friday 6th July 2018 | 19: 00 CET
QUARTERFINALS | KAZAN ARENA
Can Belgium's ‘golden generation’ outclass Brazil in the Quarterfinals?
World Cup favourites Brazil go head to head with Europe’s finest, Belgium and this will be a genuine test for both teams.
Brazil has been solid in the back so far, which has seen them concede just a single goal in this tournament. However, it’s worth noting that the Selecao have only played against teams that showed them too much respect. Belgium will not grant Brazil so much comfort, but they also cannot afford to give away goals easily as they did against Japan.
Brazil’s Casemiro has been a vital figure in the heart of midfield, and his suspension could leave a Brazil’s line of defence exposed. Fernandinho used sparingly as a sub so far will likely fill the void.
Belgium’s comeback against Japan gives them momentum going into this clash. The so-called “golden generation” including the likes of Eden Hazard, Kevin De Bryune, and Romelu Lukaku must now announce their arrival in the biggest stage.
- A European team has eliminated Brazil in each of the last three tournaments (France 2006, Netherlands 2010, and Germany 2014).
- Brazil has seen their World Cup games play to under 2.5 goals, while Belgium has been involved in high-scoring games.
