COSTA RICA vs SERBIA
KICK OFF: 17th June 2018 | 13:00 CET
GROUP E ROUND 1 | SAMARA ARENA
A tightly contested match expected with little to separate the two sides
Costa Rica had an incredible campaign last time out where they topped a group that included Uruguay, Italy, and England and eventually finished as quarterfinalists. However, a repeat of the same in Russia is far from reach after finding themselves alongside Brazil, Switzerland, and Serbia. Selecao will potentially top the group, leaving the other three to fight for a single spot and that’s the challenge.
Serbia are a rejuvenated side that includes experienced players such as Nemanja Matic, Aleksandar Kolarov, and Dusan Tadic. International debutant Milinkovic-Savic will also play a focal role in midfield. After missing both the previous World Cup and Euro 2016 tournaments, Serbia will want to prove their arrival in Russia, starting with their first match.
However, the Central American team have a habit of pulling surprises at this stage, and they should not be underestimated. A low-scoring game looks likely to result in a draw.
