Portugal vs Spain: Goals to be decisive in a Russian Iberian Derby
These two European giants will be fighting for a top spot in group B both looking certain to qualify from the group. Portugal’s defensive organisation and resilience saw them lift the European trophy in 2016 and they will be hard to beat if they display the same qualities in Russia. Ronaldo is fully fit this time, relentless and hungry for more trophies as always. Portugal’s best World Cup result was a third-place finish which dates back to 1966, and they will want to better that with their current generation of stars.
Opponents Spain and World Cup winners in 2010 are making their eleventh consecutive appearance in this competition. They haven’t lost a match since new coach Julen Lopetegui took charge in 2016 (P19, W13, D6, OL), and this form should leave contenders with a lot to ponder. La Roja boasts big names in almost every position, led by skipper Sergio Ramos and shot-stopper David De Gea.
This match promises to entertain, and I’m backing goals to decide the winner.
