BARCELONA VS REAL MADRID
KICK OFF: Sunday 28th Oct 2018 | 16:15 CET
LA LIGA WK10 | Camp Nou
No Hype, No Title at Stake, No Battle of the Best Players - An Uninspiring Clasico with Madrid's Problems Set to Continue
This will be the most insignificant Clasico in many years. Both teams have been unimpressive in recent games and the side that steps up a gear can collect maximum points in this match.
Barcelona are winless in the last four league games, with three draws and a defeat. They have been poor defensively, conceding in all their last six league games, and they haven’t been outscoring their opponents either. With Luis Suarez out of form in front of goal, Messi has been the primary source of inspiration going forward. The Argentine has saved Barca from shame twice, levelling matters to secure a point against Bilbao and Valencia, respectively. Clearly, Ernesto Valverde must fine-tune every department for them to win this game.
Madrid are as well average at the moment and totally opposite to Barca - they haven’t scored in all their last four games. Los Blancos have struggled in the absence of key creative players – Isco, Marcelo, and Bale – so it’s hard to see where the goals will come from if none of them returns to face Barca. Additionally, the departures of Zidane and Ronaldo leaves the Capital club without a high-profile figure leading them into this Clasico. The motivation to battle will be low.
Despite looking a low-profile Clasico, Messi can make a difference. He just loves playing against Real Madrid and making them suffer. A Barca win is more than likely.
Key Match Facts
- Barca’s Leo Messi has been directly involved in five of Barca’s six goals scored in the last four Liga matches (3 goals, 2 assists).
