ARSENAL VS MANCHESTER CITY
KICK OFF: SUNDAY 15TH JULY 2018 | 16:00 CET
Premier League wk1 | EMIRATES STADIUM
Arsenal begins life with Unai Emery by taking on defending champions Manchester City. The Londoners would want to give their fans the hope of a great future by at least avoiding defeat against a top side. This is set to be a close contest, and an Arsenal win is possible on this occasion.
Unai Emery seems happy with the squad he inherited from the legendary Arsene Wenger if decent pre-season performances have been anything to go by. The new manager has still brought in solid recruits to add strength in depth. New keeper Bernd Leno is a solid option between the sticks, and defenders Sokratis Papastathopoulos and Stephanie Lichtsteiner have the experience to make an instant impact.
Manchester City had a record-breaking season, but the pressing question is whether the squad will have the stamina and enthusiasm to replicate anything close to that phenomenal performance. Furthermore, many of City players returned late from Russia so it might take a little while before Guardiola can fine-tune.
Arsenal are well-organised and looking good to win this one.
- The last nine meetings, Arsenal and Manchester City have seen over. 2.5 goals scored in total.
- Sergio Aguero has scored in 6 out of 7 opening match days. He has scored in all but one of the last 5.
