When you think of playing a poker game, or any casino game for that matter, thoughts of doing so with a celebrity are totally out of the question. Besides, how many times has the world seen first class celebrities gracing the same casinos that most ordinary folk frequent? For this reason alone, it was quite refreshing, and not to mention surprising, when Jennifer Lopez aka J-Lo released her new music video called “Dinero” in which she is seen as playing a game of poker.
When you think of it, “Dinero,” i.e. the name of the music video, resonates well with poker as it is the Mexican term for money. Most gamblers know that poker is a game frequently played by high rollers, and viewed as players who have a larger bankroll compared to others on the casino floor. As such, naming the video, “Dinero” totally helps in bringing out the theme of the video.
From start to finish, the strip poker video centres on Jennifer Lopez. She is seen seated at a poker table with a pair of cards in her hand. Just in front of her are a bunch of high-value chips and stacks of ‘dinero’. As you would expect with any high roller, a cocktail is by her side as she tries to outsmart her opponents. At the same table are three male opponents. From the look of things such as the facial expressions, it’s clear that Jennifer Lopez is winning this game.
In addition to the action on the poker table, the video also shows us some fancy cars, of course, what kind of high rollers wouldn’t ride in a fancy car. The video also depicts stacks of cash being grilled (talk of high rollers), some marshmallows being flamed and the inside of a high roller opulent mansion. On the whole, J-Lo's poker video is all about imitating the life of high rollers in a land-based casino.
Furthermore, the lyrics of the song talk about how J-Lo is looking for money, all the pre-occupation is looking for ‘green’. The celeb is dressed in expensive attire along with some exquisite jewellery, while in one scene; she is seen putting on a diamond-encrusted Yankees cap.
The video was entirely shot in black and white, but that doesn’t take anything away from its brilliance. In fact, the black and white tone helps in bringing out the beauty of her playing poker in a classical sense.
This is the third video that has been released by Jennifer Lopez this year as part of her upcoming album which is rumoured to be a wholly Spanish album. Joseph Khan who has directed videos for Lady Gaga and Taylor Swift in the past is responsible for the direction for "Dinero" that also features Cardi B and DJ Khaled. Earlier this year, Jennifer Lopez sang the ‘Dinero’ song at the Billboard Music Awards.
