Redstar Poker Review

One of the few surviving Poker rooms from the early day of online poker, Redstar Poker has maintained an excellent reputation over the last 15 years since it arrived in 2005. Back in its heyday, the platform focussed on East European markets such as Russia and Ukraine with its proprietary software. The company ditched this strategy in 2013 when it joined up with the Microgaming Poker Network, considered the biggest network of its kind at the time. This partnership served Redstar well until 2019 when Microgamming announced that it intended to end the network. Consequently, Redstar teamed up with the somewhat less reliable iPoker network.

Redstar Poker is owned and run by RSP Entertainment N.V., who are based and licensed in Curacao. Its lack of a credible license is seen as a downside by many, especially players from western regions such as the UK, Sweden and the U.S. since they cannot use the site. But despite its heavy focus on Russian Players, turbulent past and dubious setup, the site still commands a good reputation, a loyal fan base and enough traffic to keep things lively at the tables.

Software

Redstar Poker has an entirely different look and feel to many other poker sites. Absent of flashy graphics and other gimmicks, the landing page is clear, intuitive and straightforward. Perfect for players new to online poker and pro's alike, who want to get straight into the games without distraction. Their award-winning software is stable and easy to use, with fast downloads available for windows 7 or above and Mac. There is also a browser-based web client available for any device access, with a revamped lobby supporting many additional features.

Plenty of reliable deposit and withdraw options are present, supporting popular gambling e-wallets such as Skrill and Neteller, bank cards and transfers, along with the increasingly popular Bitcoin option. Real money players will be pleased to know that Redstar does not charge fees for withdrawals and processes cash-outs in 48hrs. One great feature that is sure to please many players is its support for 'Heads-up Display Software' (HUD). Unlike many of the big sites, players can use programs like Hold’em Manager and Poker Tracker on all games except Blaze and anonymous player tables.

Games

On initial arrival to the Redstar poker site, you will be greeted with a very intuitive page that lists all the tournament and Freeroll games available in separate columns for each of the poker variations available. Perfect! Click on the type of poker you want to play from the options of Texas Hold’em, Omaha High, Omaha Hi-Lo 8, 5 card draw or Razz, and the page automatically lists all up and coming tournaments and Freerolls.

The site offers a nice variety of tournament styles and formats. All options such as Freeze-outs, Re-Buy’s, Shoot-outs, MTT's, Sit and Go's, Heads-up and satellites are present in addition to Freeroll tournaments, which are, of course, free to play. Anonymous tables that display zero player info are also popular on this poker website and so is their hyper-turbo sit and go progressive jackpot game called Fish Party. Buy-ins can range from anywhere between 0.01 to 350.00 currency units with guaranteed prize pots up to $10,000.

Bonuses and Promotions

Another refreshing feature is the uncomplicated bonus and reward program. An initial deposit bonus of 200% up to $2,000 ranks as one of the most generous in the industry as far as we can see. The bonus is paid out as loyalty points which pays $1 cash bonus for every fifty loyalty points earnt. This must be wagered in the first 60 days. Beyond the initial bonus, loyalty points can be redeemed for real cash (Rakeback), or free entry to tournaments. As with all poker loyalty programs, the amount of Rakeback depends on the level you are at in the program.

At Redstart, there are 4 program levels: Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum. The higher you are, the more you earn. The highest level pays up to 30% Rakeback. The good news is, as of now all Redstar players receive Platinum status automatically. But hurry, this offer will not be open indefinitely. Regular promotions are also plentiful, including their headline €3,000 Sunday Freeroll for all players who have played 100 raked hands within the last seven days before the tournament.

Rake and Traffic

The standard Rake at Redstar tables is 5%, which makes it appealing to the pros and grinders on the poker circuit. With that being said, the brand's target market predominantly comprises of casual players, mostly due to the company's lack of high profile sponsorship over the years. Ultimately, this has created a balanced mix of amateurs, and pro's drawn to the site and the resulting medium to soft competition level. With a varied line-up of games for both low and medium to high stake players, the type of player drawn to Redstar Poker is diverse. Traffic levels here cannot compete with many of the big brands. But with an average number of an estimated 500 players around the cash table at any one time, there is enough life here to keep the games entertaining.

Final Thoughts and Conclusions

Redstar Poker has maintained a good following and decent reputation over its fifteen years of poker history. Its experience is phenomenal, and it has put all their knowledge to good use by developing a straightforward platform with a good mix of players. Bonuses are easy to grasp and generous, with plenty of tournament and Freeroll game variations to appeal to all types of players.

While the site attracts many kinds of player for different reasons, it is a particularly useful starting point for anyone new and inexperienced in competitive poker online. The reasons for this are numerous. First, there is no steep learning curve necessary to use Redstar Poker. Everything is clutter-free, easy to find, and well displayed. Competition is relatively soft, and Freeroll tournaments are also available. This is perfect for casual players who want to find their feet before playing real money games. When the time is right, there is also a very tasty welcome bonus available to get you started. Despite appearances, we think this is a very safe and reliable poker platform which we highly recommend.
